THE ART OF CARD GAMES

Denver, CO (April 27, 2012) – While most of us love to play great games, very few of us appreciate the “art” that goes into their creation. That’s because, for the most part, the art is unseen. Just as a great dancer appears to be floating effortlessly, a great game’s instructions and play simply work. Funnybone Toys is like a great dancer in the art of game creation. The only difference is that if you visit them in Booth 1617 at this year’s ASTRA Marketplace and Academy in Baltimore in June, you will actually see the art in their games…because besides being fun and thought-provoking card games, they are visually stunning works of art.
New to the world of game-making, Funnybone Toys is launching three of its new card games, “Array™,” “CUBU™” and “Spectrix™” at ASTRA. With a seamless blend of engaging play pattern, vibrant color and stunning graphics, game players and store-owners alike will want to keep them in a place where they can be seen by everyone. But don’t just hide them in the box to keep them looking fabulous – take them out and play as much as possible!
Funnybone Toys has integrated design with play. The company believes that being smart is cool, and early feedback shows these games make you smart. Not only that, under the “use it or lose it” theory, they keep you smart by exercising the left and right brain at the same time—a challenging activity required to really win big at CUBU, for instance.

Array™ • Ages 8 and up • $14.99
Connect the cards to build a beautiful array of colors. Add a little splice and slice to make the array explode! Wait ‘til someone tosses a splatter or SLAM card your way. You can play Array on a table – but for even more fun play it on the floor and see how big your array can grow. Be the last person in the game by building the largest array of color you can.
CUBU™ • Ages 8 and up • $14.99
Visual illusion leads to confusion as you try to follow number and color sequences. Watch out for the action cards that could completely disrupt your turn. Get to 100 points before the rest and you’ve won the CUBU challenge. Play Speed CUBU and really test your visual perception! The CUBU™ design was inspired by Bauhaus artist Josef Albers’ famous body of work, “Homage to the Square,” a series of paintings that explored color.
Spectrix™ • Ages 8 and up • $14.99
Build and expand groups of beautiful color sequences. Mix and match your own and other players’ cards into strategic groups to be the first to play your entire hand. It’s not as easy as it seems! Complete and collapse a spectrum into “white light” to increase your chances of winning.
