Composting and polar ice caps may not be current dinnertime conversation, but after playing these two games, expect a whole new vocabulary and questions from inquisitive family members. From penguins and ships to cardboard and banana peels, kids will start to notice the world around them through an important green lens.

It starts with awareness towards nature and respect for the planet. So, what could be simpler than play and learn as you protect Mother Nature’s gifts? Captivating illustrations and chunky game pieces show preschoolers how gestures and behaviors help to reduce waste, decrease pollution and safeguard animals and their environment.

The two new games are wonderfully designed for a short attention span of about 15 minutes. They’ve already won a nod from the PAL Awards. This honor recognizes outstanding children’s products that by design, content, quality, and character, engender play that advances language and appeal to all children for lasting play value.

This illustrated game introduces children to the problem of climate change and how it endangers the lives of polar animals. After building the polar environment, each player takes turns to roll the die and move their animal forward, aiming to be the first player to lead it to the safety of the big iceberg. Game play helps develop tactical skills; knowledge of the threat to polar fauna; hand-eye coordination; and respect for rules. Inside this boxed game are a 2-piece game board, 1 big iceberg, 4 mini-icebergs, 4 ships, 4 wooden animals, 1 wooden die and of course, instructions for mom/dad or grandparents.

Hungry Bins is a classification game that introduces children to how to recycle and compost. Children discover different types of materials and learn to recognize their respective collection bins. To make the matching process easier, each token features the color of the corresponding bin. A few rounds of this fun game help develop a preschooler’s association and classification skills; observation skills; and visual memory. Each boxed game includes 32 tokens, board and yes, instructions.

This month Polar Adventure and Hungry Bins join the boardgame maker’s three games and puzzles designed specifically for two-year-olds and up. Saving Water, Respect the Earth, and Animals at Risk! (each $14.99) had Adventerra Games designers tasked with no reading parts, just curiosity through play. Their efforts paid off with a total of eleven national awards to date from Mom’s Choice Awards, Play on Words’ Top 10 and Hot Diggity.

“A fun memory game that doesn’t just hone recall skills,” described a judge from the Hot Diggity Awards after playing Animals At Risk! “but also brings awareness to animals that are at risk of extinction, instilling compassion for animals early on. The illustrations are adorable, and each habitat background prompts discussion on where these animals live and their surroundings. Love the concept of reconnecting each baby with its mama!”

Hot Diggity awarded three Seal-of-Approval distinctions to the toddler-tested games. Each Seal signifies innovation, quality, entertainment and/or educational value and a commitment to excellence. “What makes it Hot Diggity great?” they explained in their reviews. “These easy-to-assemble mini puzzles do a great job of highlighting common mistakes that even adults make and providing solutions to help conserve each precious drop of water. Age appropriate puzzle piece sizes and images that little ones can understand.”

Instagram influencer @Curlygirl_careena said of Respect the Earth and Animals at Risk: “These give small children important and powerful lessons about how they can do their part to help save animals, water, and our planet.”
